Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race raising funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice new facility

The Liverpool Waters Dragon Boat Race 2024, organised by Peel Waters and sponsored by Anchor Group Services, has raised over £30,000 for Claire House Children’s Hospice. The popular, annual event, held at Princes Dock, saw teams from across the region come together and compete in high-energy races whilst raising vital funds for the charity.

Since the race’s return in 2022, over £100,000 has been raised through the event for Claire House Children’s Hospice. This year’s race featured teams representing 22 different businesses, each of which raised a minimum of £850 to enter the competition. The funds raised through this event will go towards Claire House’s second hospice facility in West Derby which offers specialist nursing care, end-of-life support, and emotional care, helping families navigate the most challenging times.

Dragon Boat Race

Emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie

Dragon boat racing, a sport originating in ancient China, has become a global phenomenon, known for its emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie. Teams of 13 members raced 200 meters through Princes Dock in ornately decorated boats with dragon heads and tails, whilst colleagues and the community lined the docks to cheer on racers.

The venue for the popular annual event is Princes Dock – the first neighbourhood of the Liverpool Waters regeneration project which is adjacent to the iconic Royal Liver Building and Pier Head. With stunning views of the River Mersey, it’s an established business and leisure destination with apartments, Grade A office space, cafes, bars, restaurants, and the Malmaison and Crowne Plaza hotels.
