Wirral Waters
2023 was a bumper year with new residents, new businesses, new jobs, two awards, significant progress on key construction projects, and fantastic local art!
Early in 2023 the first 30, energy efficient modular homes at Redbridge Quay, went on the market with two, three and four-bedroom homes available to buy. Throughout the year new residents have been moving in and enjoying the homes, communal gardens, waterside access, and the new park – called Northbank Green.
Across the Dock the Maritime Knowledge Hub project reached an important milestone with planning permission granted by Wirral Council. We hope 2024 will see further significant progress towards the creation of a world class maritime centre of excellence.
2023 was a critical year for Miller’s Quay, a cornerstone residential scheme delivering 500 highly sustainable one- and two-bedroom waterfront apartments. January saw the project win the prestigious ‘Deal of the Year’ award at Insider’s North West Residential Property Awards, followed in October by an award for ‘Development of the Year’ at the Liverpool City Region Property Awards.
Behind the awards is the serious business of delivering the £130m scheme, and in June Millers Quay celebrated its topping out, with stakeholders attending from Peel Waters, Wirral Council, Pension Insurance Corporation, LCR Combined Authority, Homes England and many more.
During 2023 we are pleased to report that over 70 per cent of the thousands of workers that have worked on Miller’s Quay live within a 25-mile radius. In addition, pre-employment programmes have secured full time jobs, over 350 students from Wirral Met College’s Construction Campus have had site tours, along with construction and project management students from Liverpool John Moores University, and pupils from several Special Educational Needs schools on the Wirral.
At our new highly sustainable office, Hythe, 2023 saw both BBH Legal Services and Causeway move in, taking occupancy above 70% with a strong mix of innovative growing Wirral businesses.
With long term sustainability always high on the agenda, in August 2023 a planning application was submitted to Wirral Council for the installation of a District Heat Network at Wirral Waters that will help to deliver the essential infrastructure for a low carbon heat source at forthcoming developments, including Vittoria Studios and West Float.
Throughout 2023, with the help of Wirral artist Adam Breaux, we have been working with students from local colleges on creating a series murals reflected the history, culture, and people of the area. The resulting murals, with the backdrop of Woodside and the Mersey, gained national media attention and added something different to what has been an amazing 2023
